Sometimes we feel our gifts cannot be used for the Kingdom, but I beg to differ.
Meet ‘S’. S is very excited about our upcoming venture, she would love to support us monthly to get us on our way, but isn’t able to do so. She was pondering to herself one day and asked the Lord ‘What can I do? How can I help?’ And according to her, He answered. An idea came flooding to her…
She is a marvelous knitter, and she loves to knit. She often receives requests for items but never wants to charge because she simply loves doing it. So this was the idea she was given: Use your gift, knitting, and support missions through it’s revenue. Her response? “Okay God, but you need to find those who want knitted items!”
She was appraoched by 3 different families that week.
And an additional 2 the next.
Within a month she had an envelope full of donations.
Along with the final project she hands her customer our brochure and explains that any payment that she gets for her knitting goes directly to supporting missions.
She keeps getting requests for items…
Is this not cool?!
I’m not only blown away by her willingness to share her talents and support our ministries in such a unique way, but also by her answer when I tell her that: “Well it’s not my idea! It was God’s.”
I am floored. In awe. Astonished, yet not surprised. I am reminded that He is in control, bigger than us and our needs, our challenges, our obstacles. God is greater, stronger, and higher than any other.
We surpassed our goal of 33% by the end of 2012. We are just over 36% and couldn’t be more grateful.
We are busy planning a trip home (to Manitoba, Canada) for the holidays and the ‘stars have aligned’ for us to speak with three different church groups! We are *so* grateful for this and are busy preparing for these three great get togethers:
In the evening of December 17th, where we will be presenting at WEFC in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In the evening of December 19th, when we will be speaking to a group from Grace Bible Church in Dauphin, Manitoba.
We will be speaking to an adult sunday school group and for a few minutes during the service at Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Winkler, Manitoba in the morning of December 30th.
What a glorious way to end the year! We ask in earnest prayer that those in attendance to each event would be blessed and that the Lord would bring forth many new comers to our sending team! Our goal is to reach 33% of our monthly and outgoing funding by the end of 2012 and we look forward in eager anticipation to how that will happen!
To say the least, waiting for miracles to happen is a fascinating place to be. Because, without a doubt, we are relying on miracles to get our funding in place to reach the mission field.
And just when I start to get a bit discouraged, something like this happens:
It was Sunday morning, just after the church service. Tom was setting up coffee outside when a woman from our congregation approached him. She told him it had been laid on her heart to support us financially, but because she didn’t have any money to do so, she went through her jewellery box and picked out the gold, which she subsequently sold and used the proceeds to support us. And she handed him a cheque.
That ^, is a miracle. And that, is exactly what I needed this past week to keep going, keep trudging forward and walking through doors He has opened, for you never know what’s on the other side.
We’re having some issues with this website… Please know that we DO NOT receive e-mails submitted via the widget on the right hand side. Sorry! Until our upcoming renos are complete, e-mail us at candice.and.tom at gmail dot com 🙂
Also, Manitoba went swimmingly well. We spoke at one church, made contact with two others, met with many families, have 3 new monthly supporters, received a few one-time gifts, and are waiting to hear back from a few more people - Whoo hoo!! Currently we have 20% of our financial needs pledges. We have a long way to go to meet our goal of 50% by the end of December, but it CAN be done! Now that we are back in Montreal we are looking to meet with families and churches in the area to share what’s been laid on our hearts. If you or someone you know of may be interested, please let us know 🙂
We’ve spent the past week in Dauphin, my (Candice’s) hometown. It was great spending time with my family and helping with harvest on my parents’ grain farm. Not only did we get to help with harvest (city boy on the combine!), but also met with a few families and let them know about our ministry. The Lord blessed us with a new monthly supporter of 1% (whoohoo!) and a few generous one-time donations. We are so thankful!
We also had the opportunity to speak at Grace Bible Church yesterday morning and spent some time with the congregation during a soup and sandwich gathering after the service. We are so thankful for the opportunity to continue growing relationships as well as foster new ones.
This week we are in Winnipeg and everyday until we leave next Monday we have at least one gathering with friends, family, and churches to discuss our ministry. Join us in prayer that the Lord will provide during this time! We ask for wisdom, words, and the Holy Spirit to communicate to those we will be in contact with. May His will be done!
